“Necessity is the Mother of Invention”.

Construction and landscape companies have a daily need to fill gasoline-powered equipment with fuel. The is making sure our employees are putting the correct fuel into the corresponding pieces of equipment. Companies are constantly blowing up the motors in their chainsaws, edgers and weed-eaters, after they were unintentionally filled with straight premium fuel. Visa versa, when generators and lawn mowers are filled with mixed fuels the motors smoked, filled the filters with oil, fouled the spark plugs, and generally forced our crews to shut the machinery down and correct the problem.

We've tried identifying fuel-cell’s with “permanent marker” but the petroleum based products wore the ink off within as little as a week. We tried duct tape with permanent marker, but once again, petroleum products and ultra-violet light wore the ink off and disintegrated the duct tape in short order.

Finally, we came up with a simple, “Tuff as Nails”, inexpensive identification TAG. ZoomiTags is made from a denier polyester fabric with low shrink weft and is coated with a proven thermoplastic alloy that is resistant to ultra-violet rays and microorganisms. The fabric is impervious to most caustic surfaces; including petroleum based products and has no ill effects from extreme weather. The fabric has an ASTM rated 95% memory and strength factor.

As a testimony to the TAGS endurance, we have one fuel-cell that our construction crew carries with them daily. It is used to hold mixed chain saw fuel on one side of the container and bar oil on the other. That can has had the same Fuel ID Tag, marked MIXED, on it for 9 years and is still as pliable as a new TAG. The ink identifying the MIXED lettering shows minimal wear. That can sits at job sites in the weather for months on end. It is thrown into pickup trucks and hauled around with the impartial care and concern only a construction worker can exude.
